Central Park East - 6:55am

Good morning!  Ok, ok I cheated a little.  This picture is from yesterday.  This morning's picture was a snow sky - a vanilla sky.  Nothing exciting about it.  So, I thought I'd share this one :)

The good thing about this being a close family & friends blog is that I can be as political & opinionated as I want and you still have to love me ;)

I'd just like to say a few things.

Last night I had a funny feeling when Mr. Obama was re-elected.  My first feeling was not of excitement, but rather, relief.  I examined that.  Relief?  I was relieved and also feeling a little apprehensive about the future of this country.  I watched Todd Akin's concession speech in Missouri and blinked twice at the over half a million votes that had been cast for him.  How could it be?  How could it be that a man who claimed a woman's body can shut down pregnancy if she's been legitimately raped, have received HALF A MILLION VOTES?  Not to mention his concession speech was full of "over God this and created by God that..."  Come on.

My concern is this:  The right has drifted so far into nut-bagdom that we no longer have a real effective pushback of ideas between the right and left that will push us forward.  We have default.  My default is Left because the Right represents religious, fiscal, scientific, and social lunacy.  That makes me sad.  This is not to say that I don't align with many of the liberal values, but I just worry about the power that the Left could gain, just by not being lunatics.  That's not the type of thing that will result in progress - that won't make us great - it will result in stagnation.

My hope for the next 4 years is that the Right gets it together a little bit.  I hope they shape up and enter 2012-2013 with reformed opinions about women's rights, gay rights, gun laws, abortion, and science.  I hope that they stop spouting their religious bullshit and leave that for their own personal blogs and family get-togethers - it has no place in American politics.  I hope that the Right & Left can begin to push each other again so we can actually make some progress.

In other news, last night, Sofie told me she voted for Romney.  That bitch!  She doesn't care about the 99%!  All she cares about is her doggie trust fund!

Have a great day!!
